Agree, that's really messed up, like would YOU end someone else's life because they stole your "property" ? Your stuff can be replaced, not a life. But, if only shot them in the leg, like Carrier said, then it would be ok as a warning. If the robber gets charged and put in prison...wow then US laws are more messed up than I thought. (lol, Canada has a law which you can't buy anything more than 25 Cents all in pennies. )
