So if you smack a kid over the head with baseball bat because he did something wrong, thats not abuse.

But if you happen to feel like some batting practice but ran out of balls; and use the childs head as one, it is?

Ah, so this must mean abuse lies within the reason for hitting the child, not the excessive force used to discipline them.
